(yellow area) Fat Quarter = 18" x 22" (can cut 4 from one yard)
(pink area) Fat Eighth = 18" x 11" (can cut 8 from one yard)
(dark pink area): Sweet Sixteen = 9" x 11" (can cut 16 from one yard)
Jelly roll strips = 2 1/2" x 44" wide
(you can cut a total of 14 of 2 1/2" strips from a yard)

Also, you can get 56 squares at 5" each from a yard of fabric, with some left over
(you'll only be able to cut 40" of the 44" width (so you'll have 4" leftover (in gray squares )),
and only 35" of the 36" length (so you'll have 1" leftover (in the gray squares))
(But! Realize you need to allow for the seam - so a quilt may USE 56 squares at 5" each, but when you sew them together, the seam allowances will reduce the finished size of the quilt. same for the 4" and 3" examples below)
